Children can be a Memorable part of a Beach Wedding Ceremony – Photo by Rox Beach of Ocean City

More than ever, children often play significant roles in Beach Weddings.   Many couples are having children before marriage or already have little ones from previous relationships.  Younger children may be particularly emotional when their parent marries a new spouse.  It is important to include them and make them feel  part of your ceremony.  They need to feel  accepted by your new husband or wife.  Most of society  has adapted to the evolution of the new modern family and the challenges they face.  Unfortunately, many churches frown upon this new reality and push members away when the wedding is announced.    The good news is that the beach welcomes everyone with open arms  and is far better for wedding pictures and videos than any indoor venue!
Here in Ocean City Maryland and Bethany Beach Delaware  we’ve had the pleasure of performing beach wedding ceremonies for many families.   Children often bring positive energy to the wedding and the guests love seeing them in their little suits and bridesmaid dresses.  The smaller ones usually get an opportunity to be flower girls or ring bearers.  Teens and young adults are often members of the wedding party- either a bridesmaid or groomsmen and sometimes the Best Man or Maid of Honor.  Every once in a while, the Bride will choose her son to escort her down the sandy aisle to her Beach Wedding Archway.
A wonderful way to incorporate children into your Beach Wedding  is to have a Sand Unity Ceremony.  Each family member has their own container of sand.  The Bride and Groom will have their own separate colors.   The children will either all have the same color sand (sometimes simply sand from the beach) or their own individual colors.  The  Beach Wedding Officiant  will say a few words as the family pours their sand into a common vessel, symbolizing the new family union.  Sometimes the family wedding party takes turns pouring in the sand or they can pour it all in at once.  There is no right or wrong way- the important thing is that the sand unity ceremony is meaningful to you and your loved ones.   Sean Rox has written a book specifically for Maryland and Delaware   nuptials with five unique Beach  Ceremonies  to choose from as well as original sand unity vows for you and your family that may be extremely helpful for your planning.   Beach Accessories are often on display at the Ocean City Bridal Show in April.
